CFU Secure 50 Year Lease on Stadium

Following on from yesterday’s news of the extension to Steve Burr’s contract, the Board of City Fans United can announce that we have today conclude all the legalities regarding the extension of the Lease on the Swansway Chester Stadium.

The initial lease granted to us was due to expire next April but following extensive negotiations with the Council we have today secured a 50-year term Lease. This will allow us to press ahead with our plans for improvements to the Stadium and hopefully open up opportunities to secure grant funding to help finance the planned works.

The CFU Board would wish to place on record its thanks to Cheshire West and Chester Council for the generous term of this lease and we would also like to thank the Council’s Estates and Legal Staff who have assisted us throughout the discussions. Thanks too must also go to the Staff at Hillyer McKeown, our retained Solicitors, for their professionalism and expertise in helping us reach this position today.

Grenville Millington, CFU Board Chairman said: “What a fantastic two days this has been for our Club and today marks a very important milestone in our development. Thanks must go to our past Chairman, Tony Durkin, who led for us on this important project for many, many months. Tony was ably advised and assisted by Steve Harvey and CFU member Paul Ivison. Our Vice-Chair, Jim Keegan, saw the project through to conclusion after Tony stood down from his Board role. We can now build for the future with confidence.”

Presently, we are planning that the Lease will be formally handed over to the Club at tomorrow’s game against Woking.
