With the AGM fast approaching, we are now inviting candidates wishing to stand for election to the board of CFU and Chester Football club to submit their nominations.
It is hard to believe that it is now three years since the formation of City Fans United through the merger of the Trust and ISA in October 2009. A board was elected in December 2009 and as board membership term is for three years, everyone who was elected in 2009 who has not already gone through the re-election process now needs to stand down by rotation having served a complete term. This means that there will be five elected board places available in this year’s ballot.
Over time we will move towards having an equal number of places available each year, however as things stand at the moment there may only be one place available at next year’s election.
As members will know, the club have big ambitions both on and off the field. We are looking to build training facilities to both generate income and allow for the growth of our Youth and Community football sides. We also need to generate more non-football revenue to help fund the club back towards full-time football which we all aspire to.
These are ambitious projects, and in order to achieve them, we need a wide range of skills and experience to drive the club forwards, amongst both our volunteers and on our board. As we approach this year’s AGM, you now have the opportunity to contribute to the future success of Chester FC and City Fans United by applying for election to the board, and with the number of spaces available this year almost certain to be larger than next year we would encourage those members who can make a valuable contribution to the next challenging phase of our development to take the opportunity to bring their skills to the board room. Elected members normally serve for a period of three years before standing down or being re-elected.
To be eligible to stand for election, you must be 18 years of age or over and be a current member of City Fans United. You must also be able to pass the FA ‘Owners and Directors’ test, which is broadly similar to our own requirements of board members:
• You must not be a disqualified director
• You must not be subject to a bankruptcy order or have an Individual Voluntary Arrangement in place with creditors
• You must not have any unspent criminal convictions
At the bottom of the page you will find a nomination form should you wish to put yourself forwards for the vacant board positions. You should complete the form and also obtain two nominations from other members of the Society. The nominations can take the form of a signature on your application form, or can be provided separately by email in support of your application if you are unable to obtain a physical signature from your sponsors.
You also have the opportunity to write a manifesto of up to 500 words. This is not mandatory but should you wish to provide a manifesto, this will be circulated to members ahead of the AGM. The manifesto should be used to sell the skills and expertise which you can bring to the board. In the event that we have more applications than places available, an election will be held and members will use this information to elect candidates of their choice to the board.
You should also complete and return the FA Form below.
The completed forms should be returned to myself at The Exacta Stadium to arrive no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 7th November, 2012.
If you have any questions on the election process or on board membership in general, please contact me by calling the club on 01244 371376, or by email to agm2012@cityfansunited.com.
Finally, on behalf of the board, thank you for your continued support.
