Junior Blues on display at Gigg Lane

Junior Blues

Last Saturday, April 24th, saw City Fans United and Junior Blues members attend Gigg Lane, Bury for the FC United of Manchester youth day. Nearly 100 supporters of the new Chester Football Club, including over 30 members of the Junior Blues section, were greeted warmly and wished great luck in their quest to gain a lease for their local community stadium and to launch their community focused supporter owned football club.

The children, aged between 10 months and 15 years, paraded around the ground, and were greeted by huge cheers from all sections of the 3000 crowd, as they carried their Chester FC and Junior Blues flags and banners. “It was very emotional”, said proud parent Phil Spencer of Elton, “especially at the end of the game when the FC United fans stopped celebrating their own win, to chant ‘Chester… Chester…” as we all left”.

City Fans United Community Officer Mark Howell, says the trip was “put on to give the children of Chester a chance to sing and shout the name of our Club, to spread the word about what we are doing and to actually see a game of football! The fantastic, family friendly atmosphere would be something that we will be trying extremely hard to emulate should we be granted our wishes by the council this week. It was touching to see the reaction of other supporters to our children, the real spirit of football was apparent there for everyone to see”.
