One Club, One Name – What would you call it?

This week CFU are going to take the unique step of opening up the naming of the new reformed football club for Chester to the vote of the CFU members & the Chester public. We have already received a number of suggestions as to what the new Club should be called and we would like to invite supporters to submit their ideas by 6am on Tuesday. The CFU Board will then draw up a shortlist of names that will be put out for local people to vote on later this week.

CFU in positive meetings with local businessmen

It is City Fans United’s view that we be as transparent as possible with our members and also with Chester fans who are yet to sign up to CFU.

Based on this, we would like to advise its members and Chester supporters that meetings have taken place with local businessmen, in a bid to take the future of the reformation of the football club forward, and we are pleased to say that the meetings have been productive, and further meetings will be held next week.

Chester City FC (2004) Ltd wound up – Further Statement

Today, 125 years of history of Chester City Football Club was ended at the High Court, and this was a sad culmination in a period of turbulence that has seen the club slip out of the Football League for a second time, fail to pay its employees, and failing to fulfil fixtures in the Football Conference, resulting in an embarrassing expulsion from their competition.

CFU – The Story So Far

So, how did it all come about, and what have we done in the last year, well open up the above link and you can see how things have gone.

Live, work or visiting London or the South and want to help?

March 10th could be a very significant day in the life of football in Chester.

The Exiles are organising calling of CFU members and supporters from an Exile member’s office in Croydon, South London (15 minutes from Victoria or London Bridge). This will be from late afternoon into the early evening. We will be giving members the latest news from the High Court and asking if they are prepared to help CFU by offering ideas, recruiting their friends, family and colleagues and contributing to our coffers.

The calling we have already done has proved really successful and CFU members are pleased to hear from us.

So, if you are in the area – please email david@chestercityexiles.co.uk for further information. Full training, scripts and refreshments will be provided.

Loan Notes Explained

The CFU Loan Note Scheme was initially set up by City Fans United to raise a sum of money to enable us to provide for the setting up of a ‘phoenix’ club.

How much will it cost?

As much as you can afford! Supporters are being offered the chance to buy CFU Loan Notes in multiples of £100, but there is no upper limit.

For people who do not want to pay in a lump sum, you can set up a standing order to CFU to pay small amounts monthly. Loan notes would then be issued each time you hit multiples of £100.

Who can purchase Loan Notes?

The loan note scheme is open to members of City Fans United over the age of 18. Anyone not a member wishing to purchase loan notes can join on the Loan Note Application Form.

What benefits are there to my purchasing Loan Notes?

The main benefit you get is to play your part in investing in your club, and effectively giving the community of Chester a meaningful impact on the future of their Club. The Loan Note holders will collectively own a shareholding in their community football club, enabling them to be able to elect their fellow members to the board of their Club.

This way, we can prevent any one person purchasing a controlling interest in our Club, therefore preventing the past traumas of our Club from ever occuring again.

If Chester FC are successful in future years and CFU’s stake becomes worth a lot of money, could we sell our shares and distribute the profits?

Although it would be legally possible for CFU to sell some or all of the shares it owns in Chester Football Club, this would be the complete opposite to the principles of supporter ownership of the club that CFU are trying to establish. We must also stress that this is not an investment opportunity, please do not treat it as one.

Why should I invest in CFU?

This is a chance to invest in the future of a community focused, supporter led football club. A club that can help continue the 125 year proud history of football in our City, and give us a Club that we can once more be proud to support. A club with one voice and one vision.

Planning for a Brighter Future

Since Chester City were expelled from the Football Conference on Friday, there have been a number of rumours circulating about the future of football in Chester, specifically a number of misunderstandings about CFU’s work towards the reformation of the Club.

We understand the concern that fans and members have about the future of football in Chester, and share your desire to see football back in the City again.

However although the Club were thrown out of the League last Friday in accordance with football regulations, Chester City FC 2004 has until Friday 5 March to appeal against the original recommendation by the Board of the Football Conference to its member clubs to expel Chester City. This appeal is not against the vote of the Clubs taken last Friday.

Assuming there is no appeal or it is unsuccessful we will be making an application to join the football pyramid as a ‘reformed’ club, and this will be assessed by The FA. We are also continuing regular and active discussions with the Council over making an application for the lease of the Deva. As a critical part of both our application for the lease, and for a league place, we have been working closely with our advisors, Supporters Direct, to draw up a comprehensive business plan.

Although some of the process may not be as clear as fans – or we – would like, we would like to reassure everyone that despite rumours to the contrary, there is no rule stating that a reformed Chester City will have to begin at North West Counties League.

We are getting the best advice on all these issues from Supporters Direct, and will continue to keep members and fans alike informed of developments.

Chester City FC Expelled from BSP

Today the member clubs of the Football Conference have voted to expel Chester City FC from the competition.

City Fans United are dismayed and saddened that this situation has been allowed to occur, however we have previously stated our belief that years of financial mismanagement meant that this decision was inevitable.
